{ART - Coming Soon}
As we continued to walk the hollowed halls before us we encounter yet another closed door. Seeing as we now knew what we were looking for, I took out my listening cone and placed it against the door. To my surprise I actually heard movement beyond the closed door, unlike the endless number of empty rooms of past.
The door did not want to open to the push of my pole, so I had to physically push it, releasing a toasty blast of fire in my direction. This was either a rather poor trap or my time in this dungeon has made me quite hardy. Shrugging off the flames I continued to open the door only to be greeted by a much larger fire, an orb covering the entire doorway came flying at me leaving no time for reaction. All I could hear were foot steps heading through the flames and into the newly discovered room.
I quickly ran out from the engulfing orb to see the scout and ninja attempting contact with the would be attackers. I saw that truce may be a possibility so I slapped my tongue over my face a few times, clearing the dark ash from it. Our opponents proved to have been a couple of lizard men, a warrior and a druid. They seem to be communicating rather fluently with the kobold and seemed to be relatively friendly. The cleric, also knowing the language in which the spoke, convinced them we should join forces to find an exit out of this place.
Pressing on with our new found companions we found a peculiar rune engraved on the floor. I took out my trusty pole and poked it, only for my pole to vanish from sight. The kobold tried a similar tactic by dropping a rock onto the rune producing the same same effect. We then convinced one of our new lizard warriors to test this contraption. The lizard reluctantly stepped on the rune, vanishing for a few seconds then popping back into existence, reporting a small room with a few orc corpses, a rather bad smell, and a very bad smell. The kobold then quickly pulled up its filter mask... that little creature must be prepared for anything, then steps on to the rune itself. I begin thinking this is safe to partake, so I try my chance at this little adventure. I quickly appeared in the small room described by the lizardman, and among the rubble I spot my trusty pole, quickly picked it up and stepped back through rune. The air had been incredibly stale, it made me wonder how long someone could hold out within those walls. Soon after, the kobold also reappeared, this time holding out three silver daggers, I took one and passed another to the dwarf.
Moving along we spotted a small corridor containing segmented pillars with blades sticking out of each. Clearly a sprung trap indicated by the few dead orcs laying on the floor. We managed to squeeze ourselves through the blades and on to the other side, only to find a small chamber with a brass plate bearing a celestial symbol. We explain the deadly effects of touching these to the new members of our group and moved on to the next room beyond, which contained nothing but moldy barrels and more crates of expired food.
The action in these parts seemed to be a bit thicker as we continue down the next hallways and heard some fighting in the distance. It did not sound as much of a fight as it did a massacre of sorts. As we peered into the room where the sounds were originating, we witnessed a large owlbear tearing through a pack of those dark tentacle creatures. One could see the rage in the creature's devastating actions, something like this could not be permitted to roam this place, the chance of being caught off-guard were too dangerous, better we catch it off-guard now. We all agreed on what we had to do, but before I could react, the rest of my companions were already rushing in.
After a few seconds, my blade instantly ignited before my eyes. So startled by the power, along with the heat of the enchantment on my blade, I had to be snapped out of my daze by the kobold, who had read the enchantment off of a scroll it had previously found.
Seeing he had a similar idea, the lizard druid cast an enchantment of his own, growing a large blade of flame from his arm. The other warrior leaped into action shooting a crossbow bolt, hitting the creature directly. The dwarf was up next, quickly dashing behind the owlbear, and with a swift stab, "Corruption", although any indication of its effect were covered by the beast's feathers. The crossbow-weilding lizard warrior takes another quick shot along with the cleric, unfortunately they miss both their shots.
Angered by the repeated attacks, the creature used its large feathered hands to crush the remaining octopus within its grasp. Just as it turns its attention to us I figured this would be my shot. I started by taking a running start with a grand jump pouring all my strength into my blade. As I think back on that moment I believe I should put more strength into my jump instead, as I landed face first directly in front of the beast. I believe even the kobold felt bad for my failure as it covered its face with its hand. As I regained my posture, the first of the lizard warriors ran into the fray, stabbing the owlbear with its flaming arm-blade. The kobold fired a dark ray as the dwarf stepped in for another stab. The second lizard fires and misses yet another shot. The beast takes its turn, just missing biting at me as its claws take their toll on the dwarf and lizard druid. Regaining my composure, I take a good swing and deal it a fair slice. A stab, magical missiles, and a crossbow's direct hit finish off the battered bully as it comes tumbling to the floor.
We took a moment to make sure of our victory as the cleric performed her after-battle healing routines. Unfortunately the great owlbear did not have any items within its possession. Exhausted from such battles, we decided to take a nice rest before we continue.
